Singapore team rubs shoulders discreetly with hi-tech massage jacket

By Yiming Woo SINGAPORE (Reuters) – A Singapore design team claims to have come up with a solution to coping with aches and pain in the office – a jacket that massages your muscles and attempts to correct your posture. Controlled by a mobile app and able to run for around three hours after a USB charge, ‘Aira’ uses air pressure devices inside the jacket which expand to target pressure points and produce the sensation of a massage.

Teens most drawn to e-cigarettes by online ads

To see which e-cigarette ad formats were most persuasive to teens, researchers analyzed data from a recent nationwide survey of about 22,000 middle school and high school students from grades 6 through 12, when youth are typically about 12 to 18 years old. When middle school kids said they routinely viewed e-cigarette ads online, they were almost three times more likely to use the devices than their peers who never saw ads. “E-cigarette ads use many of the same themes used to sell cigarettes and other conventional tobacco products, such as independence, rebellion and sex,” said lead study author Dr. Tushar Singh of the Office on Smoking and Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Tanzania’s new president sacks hospital chief after surprise inspection

Tanzania’s new president sacked the head of the main state hospital after finding patients sleeping on the floor during a surprise visit, his office said. President John Magufuli also broke up the governing board at Muhimbili National Hospital after discovering the main scanning and diagnostic machines were not working and seeing other poor conditions on Monday, the presidency added. “The president is trying to send a message that times have changed … It’s not business as usual … It’s all about delivery – the government has to deliver for the people,” the chief secretary at the president’s office, Ombeni Sefue, said.

Oregon mom accused of throwing autistic son off bridge held on $1 million bail

(Reuters) – An Oregon mother accused of killing her 6-year-old autistic son by throwing him from a bridge is being held on $1 million bail, a Lincoln County District Court clerk said on Wednesday. Jillian McCabe, 34, was arrested on Monday night after calling emergency 911 to report she had thrown her son, London, from the 246-foot-high Yaquina Bay Bridge in the coastal Oregon town of Newport, about 115 miles southwest of Portland. London McCabe's body was found four hours later after an extensive search by law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard. …
