Police name suspect in Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting

By Keith Coffman COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) – Police on Saturday identified the suspect in a deadly shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs as 57-year-old Robert L. Dear, but released no further information about him. The gunman who stormed the clinic in central Colorado on Friday killed three people, including a police officer, and wounded nine others before surrendering after a standoff at the facility lasting several hours, authorities said. Police in Colorado Springs identified Dear as the suspect in a Tweet on Saturday.

Egyptian court begins retrial of Mubarak in corruption case

An Egyptian court began a retrial on Saturday of former president Hosni Mubarak and his sons for allegedly diverting public funds earmarked for the renovation of presidential palaces to upgrade family properties. Mubarak, 86, toppled in a 2011 popular uprising, was sentenced to three years in prison last May and his two sons were given four-year jail terms in the same case. Egyptian state television aired brief footage of Mubarak and his sons inside a cage in the courtroom in the Police Academy.

Indian court allows marine charged with murder to extend stay in Italy

Body of autistic New York boy found in South Carolina pond

(Reuters) – The body of a 4-year-old New York autistic boy who had gone missing two days earlier from his grandmother’s house in South Carolina was found in a nearby pond on Friday, police said. An autopsy performed on Jayden Morrison of White Plains is expected to show that he died of accidental drowning, and there is no indication of foul play, said Lieutenant Raul Denis, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department. The family, including the boy’s twin brother, who is also autistic, had traveled to the grandmother’s second home in South Carolina for the holidays, Denis said. …
